Since the fireplace had kind of a '60s/mod/Brady Bunch feel to it, I embraced that and made a wooden sputnik sculpture to hang next to it. I had my intern cut the wood circles from birch branches. I then used a paint/water combo to wash the edges a bright green color before I assembled the whole thing.
